In the shadows of the national news cycle, Trump’s allies just opened a new immigrant internment facility in Florida—nicknamed “Alligator Alcatraz” due to its isolated, swamp-surrounded location and inhumane conditions. Reports from inside this barbaric camp include overflowing toilets, rotting food full of maggots, withholding medication, and denying access to attorneys. Most of those detained have NO criminal conviction. Some are U.S. citizens. One is a 15 year old boy.
Meanwhile the Republican party is selling official merch to celebrate it all.
And this is just the beginning.
Plans are already in motion to construct more camps across the country – including a second location already in the works in Florida. These camps are aimed at detaining vulnerable immigrant families and asylum seekers en masse. This is a direct threat to human rights, civil liberties, and the soul of our democracy.
