Saugatuck Douglas Area Indivisibles Ballot Recommendations
Michigan Constitutional Convention
This ballot item is required to be put before the people every couple of years. The only people supporting it are those who want to get rid of the constitutional amendment that protects women’s rights to privacy and medical care.
We voted unanimously to encourage our members to vote NO on this proposal.Michigan Citizenship Verification and Voter Identification Initiative (2026) The second proposal is a Michigan version of the National Save Act which would require an undue burden for people registering to vote to find their birth certificates and a passport (if they have one) and for married women to indicate why the name had been changed from the birth certificate. Clearly this would disenfranchise many of our voters. The ballot is dangerously misleading.
We voted unanimously to encourage our members to vote NO on this proposal.Michigan Utility and Government Contractor Campaign Finance Regulations Initiative (2026) This third proposal is to get money out of politics, and it would prohibit any organization that is controlled and regulated by the Michigan Government from making contributions to the politicians who regulate them. This is the first step of getting money out of politics and is strongly supported by Saugatuck Douglas Area Indivisible.
We voted unanimously to encourage our members to vote YES on this proposal.
CALL TO ACTION - Get Ballot 3 on the ballot
Michigan Utility and Government Contractor Campaign Finance Regulations Initiative (2026)
The third proposal is to get money out of politics, and it would prohibit any organization that is controlled and regulated by the Michigan Government from making contributions to the politicians who regulate them.
The Mop Up Michigan initiative has been certified by the Board of State Canvassers, and we’ve had our ballot language approved, but as a statutory initiative the legislature is still entitled to 40 days to either pass the legislation themselves or let it go to the ballot for voters to decide. It is critical for the success of this measure that voters have the final say on Money out of Politics!
Call Representative Joey Andrews and Senator Aric Nesbitt today (yes, again!) and tell them to pledge NO legislative action on Michiganders for Money out of Politics!
Over half a million voters signed the Mop Up Michigan initiative to ban state contractors and regulated utilities from contributing to the candidates who are meant to be regulating them. Voters acted to gather signatures for this initiative after politicians failed to act on similar bipartisan legislation that sat in the legislature for years.
Now that Michiganders for Money out of Politics has been certified, the legislature has the option to simply adopt the legislation. Tell the legislature to send the Mop Up Michigan initiative straight to the ballot for voters to decide.
If the legislature adopts the language of the initiative and passes it as legislation this session, they can amend the statute and completely gut it in the next session with a simple majority vote. That would throw out all the work we’ve done over the past year to get this far. If Michiganders for Money out of Politics is passed by voters on the November ballot, it would take a supermajority vote in both chambers to amend the legislation, which means it has a lasting chance to make a transformative difference in Michigan politics.
Call Representative Joey Andrews at (517) 373-0827 and Senator Aric Nesbitt at (517) 373-0793 today and ask them to take the pledge. Your lawmakers need to know that constituents like you want voters to have the final say on money out of politics.
If you’ve already made your calls - CALL AGAIN! We need to keep up maximum pressure to get MMOP to the ballot. You can also share this DFD form with your friends and neighbors so that they can make calls to their elected officials, too. We’ve all worked so hard together to get Mop Up Michigan this far; we can’t slow down at the 5-yard line!

Vote.org offers a one-stop shop to double-check one’s registration status; if a citizen is not registered, they can sign up in minutes through the site. Share this website with EVERYONE you know, in every state across the US so they can verify they are registered to vote.
