Our meeting theme this month is “It’s All About the Election — Let’s Go!” and we
have three guest speakers slated.
Glenna DeJong, PhD, will talk on “Changing Elections One Conversation at a
Time.” If you’ve ever wanted to canvass but weren’t sure what to expect, Glenna will
take the mystery out of door-to-door voter outreach and discuss why canvassing
remains the most effective way to persuade and mobilize voters.
We’ll learn what actually happens at the door, how to handle difficult conversations, and
why simply showing up matters. Whether you’re a first-time volunteer or a seasoned
activist, you’ll leave more confident in your ability to talk with voters about electing
democracy-minded candidates in Michigan.
Glenna has been volunteering on campaigns and community issues for many years.
She knocked on hundreds of doors across southwest Michigan and has learned that
the best canvassers aren’t necessarily the best talkers—they’re the best listeners.
Like most people, Glenna was nervous the first time she canvassed. Today, she loves
helping new volunteers discover that it’s much easier—and much more rewarding—than
they expected. She believes that every conversation matters and that ordinary people
really can make a difference, one door at a time.
Meet the Candidates
We’ll also hear from two candidates:
Joe McCloskey is running as a Democrat challenging Nancy DeBoer for state
House District 86.
Phil Tanis is a moderate Republican standing for Congressional District 4,
challenging Bill Huizinga in the August primary.
Take Action
When the meeting concludes, there will be opportunities to commit to making a
difference in the upcoming elections.
It’s time to get active. It’s time to make a difference. We can do it together!
